Goaaaal! Share Your Passion For Your Team From Yahoo!7 Mail

June 5th, 2010 Add comment

The start of the world’s biggest sporting event – the FIFA World Cup — is just around the corner and the world is buzzing, rivalries are renewing, and even the smack talk has begun. Starting today on Yahoo!7 Mail, you can easily share your passion for your team. Go on, let your Yahoo!7 and Facebook friends know who you are shouting for!

Here’s how it works. Starting today, you will see a flag icon in the status area – the flag is based on the regional version and language of Yahoo! Mail that you use – If you have a Yahoo!7 Mail account, you will see the Australian flag.

World-Cup-1

By clicking on the flag, Yahoo!7 Mail will auto-fill your status message with a short phrase of support for that country.

World-Cup-3

Like any status message, you can customise it to your liking – most importantly, you can change the country you are rooting for by clicking on the drop-down arrow next to the flag. Once you do so, you can see the full list of countries that are participating. Click on the country you support and a suggested status message will populate just like before.

World-Cup-2

Once you click “Share”, your message will be broadcast to people who view your Updates on Yahoo!7. What’s even better is that you can also share your passion to your Facebook friends by clicking “Add Facebook” and linking your account (and there are many, many, many other benefits of linking your accounts). Sharing on Yahoo!7 and Facebook definitely gets the conversation going, even if everyone doesn’t always agree…

Share your passion for your team and don’t forget to check out the sweet smorgasbord of World Cup activities across Yahoo!7, sure to satisfy even the most ardent of fans.

Who are you shouting for in South Africa? (Tasla’s comment: Brazil and Australia, of course!)

Cheers,
Tasla – Yahoo!7 Mail team

Messenger Safety and Security Tip

May 6th, 2010 Add comment

Please read this important post about how to stay safe while using Yahoo! Messenger.

maintenance
As most of you know, Yahoo! takes security and spam infiltration seriously and employs various measures to help protect our users.Very recently we learned of an issue where some users have received spam messages in Yahoo! Messenger from their contact list. Yahoo! Messenger has quickly worked to resolve the situation.

As always, we recommend that any Yahoo! Messenger user who receives a suspicious IM containing a link should first IM the friend to ensure the message is legitimate before moving forward. We strongly advise users to not download executable (.exe) files that are sent through Yahoo! Messenger. Also, we recommend that users that have anti-virus software on their computer employ the latest anti-virus updates.

Thanks,
Tasla – Yahoo!7 Messenger team

Yahoo! Mail and Facebook

April 1st, 2010 12 comments

Last December Yahoo! announced its plans for integrating Facebook’s friends activities into Yahoo! Mail in 2010.  This week we’ve introduced another great feature to bring Facebook and Yahoo! Mail closer together: Now you can update your facebook status without having to leave your Yahoo! Mail account. Check out the post below, from the US Mail Blog for all the details:

If you use Facebook, Yahoo! Mail is getting better for you! As you may have heard, Yahoo! is putting a big focus on bringing you more social features, and this evening Yahoo! Mail is rolling out another handy way to connect with your friends. In select markets, we’re adding the ability to update your Facebook status right from Yahoo! Mail and see your friends’ Facebook profile photos when they email you. This quickly follows the feature we added last month that lets you easily import your Facebook friends’ email addresses to Yahoo! Contacts.

To turn on these features, first link your Yahoo! and Facebook accounts by clicking on the “Add to Facebook” link in the status section on the What’s New page in Yahoo! Mail.Add To FB Link In Status

After you log in with your Facebook credentials, you are good to go! Here’s what you’ll be able to do right from Yahoo! Mail:

Update your Facebook Status: Simply start typing what’s on your mind in the status box, and then choose where you want to share it – Yahoo!, Facebook or both.

Now hit “Share” and it gets posted where you want, including Facebook!

See Facebook profile photos when people email you: With this feature, you will see people’s Facebook profile photos – if available – anytime someone emails you.  In addition, by clicking on the profile image, you will go right to that person’s Facebook page.

Now, whether you want to send an email, IM, or update your Yahoo! or Facebook status, you can do it all from your Yahoo! Mail inbox. This integration of Facebook is just the start of how we plan to make it easier to do more right from Yahoo! Mail. Watch this space for more ways you can bridge your social worlds and Yahoo! Mail in the weeks and months ahead!

If your account is not showing the Facebook integration yet, don’t worry.  This feature is being rolled out gradually and soon it will be available across everyone’s mailboxes!

Happy Easter!
